Peace Plan Summary Document
A New Approach
Why the Peace Plan Matters
The cost of inaction is too high. Over 700,000 people have been displaced, with thousands more seeking refuge abroad. Schools remain closed, children lose access to education, and families lack essential healthcare. Infrastructure is in ruins, and economic opportunities are scarce.
This peace plan envisions a future of hope:
- For communities displaced by conflict, it promises reintegration, security, and stability.
- For the youth, it offers education, vocational training, and job creation to unlock potential.
- For ex-combatants and political prisoners, it guarantees pathways for reintegration and dignity.
- For the Former British Southern Cameroons, it ensures autonomy, respect for cultural identity, and a roadmap for self-governance.
A Commitment to Peace
The Alliance for Peace & Justice is committed to safeguarding the rights of the Former British Southern Cameroons, addressing historical injustices, and promoting a just and comprehensive resolution. This commitment is reflected in the key principles that guide this peace plan.
Key Tenets of the Peace Plan
- A Roadmap to Self-Determination: A referendum on independence or confederacy by 2030, with an inclusive process ensuring every voice is heard.
- Autonomy and Regional Governance: Establishing extensive powers for regional assemblies in Former British Southern Cameroons. Assemblies will oversee education, healthcare, policing, agriculture, and local economic development. Elections for these assemblies will follow a proportional representation system, ensuring inclusivity.
- Collaboration with Central Government: Regional assemblies will work with the central government on national security, foreign policy, and economic planning.
- Reconstruction and Economic Development: A comprehensive plan to rebuild burned villages and damaged infrastructure. Vocational training programmes and investment initiatives to create jobs and foster economic growth.
- Reintegration and Rehabilitation: Guarantees for the release of political prisoners and the reintegration of ex-combatants. Support for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees, focusing on housing, education, and community rebuilding.
- Accountability and Oversight: Independent mechanisms to ensure transparency and accountability in implementing the peace plan.
This peace plan is a collective effort to heal wounds, restore dignity, and pave the way for a prosperous and peaceful future. It acknowledges historical grievances while charting a realistic and inclusive path forward.
By supporting this plan, stakeholders will be supporting:
- A structured framework for autonomy and governance will reduce tensions and build trust.
- Investments in infrastructure, education, and jobs will uplift communities and create opportunities.
- Addressing the root causes of the conflict ensures a more equitable and inclusive Cameroon.
The Alliance for Peace & Justice invites all stakeholders to join us in this historic journey. Peace is within reach, but it requires unity, understanding, and action. Let us work together to restore hope, rebuild communities, and create a future where all Cameroonians can thrive.
