APJ CREATES COMMITTEES FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PEACE PLAN PAPER

Individual and Organizational Stakeholders Invited to Participate in the PPP Implementation

Buea | London: Wednesday, December 4, 2024 – The Alliance for Peace & Justice (APJ) in the Former British Southern Cameroons today announced that it has created nine Committees to work on the implementation of the Peace Plan Paper (PPP), which the organization adopted on November 17, 2024. Each Committee will be chaired by a member of APJ Steering Committee, but members would be drawn from experts and volunteers from within the Former British Southern Cameroons community and beyond.

There are nine APJ Committees, each of which has been tasked with the implementation of specific areas of the proposed peace plan. The Committees are:
1. Independence Referendum
2. Legislative and Judicial Reforms
3. Policing and Justice System Improvement
4. Reconstruction of Burned Villages, Schools, and Health Facilities
5. Reintegration of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
6. Economic Development
7. Citizenship and Cultural Preservation
8. Cessation of Hostilities and Rehabilitation of Ex-Combatants
9. Establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission

“Apart from identifying the nine Committees, APJ is also engaging with individual and organizational stakeholders to help implement the PPP,” said Professor Januarius Asongu, chair of the APJ Steering Committee. “APJ seeks to represent all viewpoints within the Former British Southern Cameroons. Effective stakeholder engagement is essential to securing broad support for the peace plan and obtaining expert input across its various implementation areas. NGOs, universities, professional groups, cultural and development organizations, community groups, alumni associations, and women’s organizations are critical partners in this process. They should play a pivotal role not only in mobilizing community support but also in informing and influencing the successful implementation of the peace plan.”

We invite members of our community, and any other interested individuals or organizations, who want to contribute towards peace and justice in the Former British Southern Cameroons to contact us at info@aforpeace.org.

About the APJ
The Alliance for Peace & Justice in the Former British Southern Cameroons, briefly referred to as the Alliance for Peace & Justice, or simply APJ, represents a collective of leaders from the Former British Southern Cameroons, united by a shared vision for peace, justice, and equitable governance. We understand the depth of suffering experienced by communities in the Former British Southern Cameroons, the injustices of marginalization, and the enduring aspirations for dignity, equality, and self-determination. We are working towards the cessation of hostilities between the pro-independence forces of the Former British Southern Cameroons and the Cameroon armed forces, and for autonomy and a referendum on the future of the Former British Southern Cameroons territory.
